Did you know that less than 1% of adult men surprisingly know how to tie a bow tie? Whether you are singing in barbershop or wearing tuxedo at a wedding or reception all you need to know how to tie a tie or bow tie. It’s not something most of us do seldom, but luckily, if you can tie your shoes, you can tie a bow tie because it’s not a same knot. It may not feel like it at first since positioning between your shoes and a bow tie is quite different, but with patience and practice, you can tie your bow tie as easily as your shoes!

How to Tie a Bow Tie

The Bow Tie Knot is used to tie a bow tie and is worn to give you a dressy and graceful appearance.To tie the Bow Tie Knot, select a bow tie of your choice and stand in front of a mirror. Then simply follow the steps below:

Step 1 


Pull up your collar and lay the bow tie around your neck. One side should hang 4-5 inches lower than the other end. Then cross the tie’s longer end over the shorter end. Make sure your longer end should be always placed on right side.

Step 2


Bow2Cross the longer end of bowtie over the shorter end just like you do when tying your shoes.

Step 3


Keep a finger on the half knot of the tie to keep it tight. Then fold the shorter end of the bow tie in horizontally. It should be looks like a bow tie.

Step 4


Take the longer end of the bow tie and pull it over the half folded end of bow tie.

Step 5


Now half fold the unfolded part of the bow tie to step out the longer end.

Step 6


Just like you do when tying your shoes, pull the bow tie through the loop at the back of the bowtie from inside. Do so by pushing and pulling above the fold.

Step 7


Pull/push only half way through the tie.

Step 8


Pull both ends gently to tighten the knot. As a small trick, put your index fingers through each of the loops and pull loops outwards.

Step 9


Tug and pull to make sure the bow tie sits tight. Adjust as needed–and don’t worry, slight imperfections add character of your tie. Then center in between your collar and voila, your just tied on your own bow tie! Congratulations!
